Ok, maybe not, but I am such an Apple fanboy, so I was quite distressed when my iPhone started going on the fritz after the 3.1 update.
I waited in line for the first iPhone – for four hours. The highlight of my busy work flow is customising Spaces on my mac – it literally makes me smile. When the T.V is on mute, I’ll spill over drinks to put the sound on when a “Hi, I’m a mac” adverts goes on. Yes, I am quite embarrassingly a one-sided follower of the glowing apple icon.
I was positively aghast when my iPhone started going fritz. After the 3.1 software update, it would die a horrible, silent death in the middle of the day only to revive itself an hour later, when I had charged it an hour ago. I would be all “My baby, my boyfriend, why? Why me? WHY?”. The whole week, I was a jittery ball of flesh that had to revive her lifeline four times a day, my stomach doing back flips and my heart in my mouth.
My iPhone is my calendar, mp3 player, weatherman, song trivia, calculator, Amazon store, game console, facebook/twitter/mail updater, googler and, by the way, I can make calls. Sorry, I’m fanboying it up.
I did a drop-in on an Apple store. Suicide if you’ve ever experienced how busy their tech people can get. But I was squeezed in, guess they saw the plea in my eyes.
Well, I’m trying to plan my life. Statistically, I’m 1/4 of the way through and I need to start doing stuff worthwhile.
Instead of using FreeMind, which has been fun to play with but didn’t really have staying power in my brain, I got a giant piece of cardboard and a black pen that I adore (the power a pen holds is not to be underestimated). I wrote the date in the middle and around it, what I wanted to accomplish in the next six months.
At first I wanted to keep this list to myself but my blog is suffering because of it, so now, you’re going to be part of the process of my grand adventure!
Little Flutters:
Even though I love my wordpress theme, I feel like it needs a little personalisation and exiting so stay tuned.
A resources page for those that are creatively inclined.
Spanish:
Learn at least conversational Spanish by my self-imposed deadline of my sister’s arrival to D.C – December this year.
Photography:
Take down any portfolio pictures currently online.
Do a drawing class to work on looking as light as a tool and help in composition.
Work on three projects to be completed by Feburary 2010.
Portfolio website to be launched by start of March.
Learn as much as possible from photographers that I admire.
Exercise:
Abs of steel.
Walnut cracking thighs (During a year of high school my friends and I wanted to do the laziest sport we could choose from in our curriculum: Power Walking. Every Thursday afternoon we would linger at the back of the mob of girls doing circles around the school, the teacher hot on our tails screaming “Walk faster ladies, I want you to crack walnuts with your thighs by the time I’m done with you!” At first she used to say “I want you to crack nuts with your thighs” but learnt the laughter that ensued wasn’t innocent 14 year old humour.) Anyway, strong thighs.
A right leg VMO that matches my left side. After a knee reconstruction and countless dislocations, I’m tired of always having my right knee as the weakest link. Especially if I’m going to do the trek to Machu Picchu.
Travel:
Watch Lonely Planet DVDs.
Talk to travel agents and look online for budgeting estimates.
The White Stripes: simple, good music. Great style theme and presence. The duo had the courage to create a simple idea and then run with it.
Sigur Ros: A band that somehow creates music that is out of this world and so unique no one could possibly recreate it. And that is something to aspire to no matter what your creative outlet is. I particularly like their live stuff and their latest video: Gobbledigook, which was in turn, was inspired by photographer Ryan McGinley’s work (the video and Ryan’s photos are NSFW).
Björk: This woman has done it all, in my eyes, and continues to expand her artistic repertoire. I was watching an interview she did with Charlie Rose where she states she’s thinking about the music she can create when she’s 80. I also like the fact that her private life is so secretive, she had her son when she was 20 and she did her best work when she was raising him, I’d like to see more of that kind of lifestyle!
The reason I do photographs is to help people understand my music, so it’s very important that I am the same, emotionally, in the photographs as in the music. Most people’s eyes are much better developed than their ears. If they see a certain emotion in the photograph, then they’ll understand the music. – Björk
Brigitte Lacombe is a wonderfully pared down photographer that makes light sing! She gets such a great vulnerability and strength from everyone she photographs. Below is a photo she took of Kate Winslet, which is, coincidentally, the last on my inspiration list.
Kate Winslet made me cry uncontrollably in a packed cinema (she brought The Reader to life). It was embarrassing. I could not stop the flow of salt water. I cried on the walk home then I sat down on my brown couch and cried some more. It was like the person I loved with all of me had just died, in a cinema, on a screen. I am not exaggerating – she was that fucking good in her part.
That’s all folks, for now. Who inspires you?
Where am I?
